What is AlterNativity about?
AlterNativity
‘aids’ those in need at Christmas by giving your family
and friends
a gift to help the poor, hungry, sick and homeless.
An item or service is purchased for their Christmas gift to be
ultimately donated to a needy, third party, via national and local
charities. This year’s charities include Sightsavers, Christian Aid,
Tearfund, Hinckley Homeless and the Salvation Army. This will make a real difference in the lives of
the beneficiaries – and hopefully bring a smile to the faces of all
those involved in this ‘giving triangle’.
Amongst these gifts are:
Medical supplies and surgical treatments, like a cataract operations, bandages for a patient following surgery on a Mercy Ship or antibiotics to treat children with pneumonia.
Gifts that will provide sustained food including magic muck compost for growing vegetables, or maybe a duck or a pig for a family. Also emergency meals, rice or food parcels for those in disaster or difficult situations.
Education, training and set up equipment for schools, self help groups and individuals, including a home start packs for women fleeing situations of abuse in the UK, education for children in Kenya or firewood to keep an AID's afflicted family warm in Romania. Building bricks/blocks to build a house for someone living with leprosy in India.
